Cave Coopérative du Vendômois – Vendome, Loire
Produced from a tiny single hectare vineyard on silex soil in the Vendôme region of the Loire, this is France’s most northerly wine producing region which is quickly becoming known as a premium site for Chenin Blanc.
The Chenin Blanc is bone dry, bursting with tangy apple, grapefruit and lime and a wet stone/chalky impression that comes from the silex soil. The finish is surprisingly long and has the cleansing bite of an apple sorbet. Purity, balance, clear varietal expression and a sense of place. Pineau d’Aunis is a grape with a very specific flavour profile, notably white pepper. Once tasted, never forgotten. It remains the only permitted cépage for the making of Rosé.
