Vito Lauria is a long time friend of Woodwinters and we have delighted in presenting his evolving range of wines since his return to his native province of Alcamo in the north of Sicily. The Balio range - named after the gardens high on Mount Erice in nearby Trapani - is our new collaboration with Vito. We took the opportunity to showcase Vito's knowledge, in tandem with his local contacts and the long-heralded climate of the island, to produce organic wines that deliver fruit, balance and pleasure with ease.
Balio Catarratto 2024
12% abv
Vol- 75cl
Vibrant white, fleshy fruits paired with a almond & herb harmonics. Chilled peach, ripe apple and dusty pomelo. Like tasting Citrus granita in a the dappled morning sun of a north Sicilian orchard. Lovely fruity weight & length with wild fennel and zest on the finish.
Catarratto is one of Sicily’s most widely planted white grapes, loved in the past for being friendly & productive in the vineyard and further championed now for its ability to make wines with Island breadth. 100% Catarratto sourced from Vito’s favourite organic partners in Alcamo and beyond. Fermented in Steel with light lees aging to deliver a pure, unadorned exemplar of the grape.
