Balvenie 14 Year Old ‘Caribbean Cask’

43% abv

Vol- 70cl

Caribbean Cask has been matured in traditional oak whisky casks for 14 years, and then ‘finished’ in casks that previously held Caribbean rum. To create the ideal finish Malt Master David Stewart, filled American oak casks with his own blend of select West Indian rums. When he judged the casks to be ready, the rum was replaced with the 14 year old spirit and the wood was put to work adding the final touches. The result is an exceptional single malt whisky with the traditional smooth, honeyed character of The Balvenie, married with notes of toffee and a hint of fruit, with a warm, lingering finish. On the nose there is rich, sweet and creamy toffee combined with fresh fruit notes. On the palate it is rounded with vanilla and sweet oak notes, with a fruity character that develops with time.

Originally founded under the name of Glen Gordon, The Balvenie is the second distillery built by William Grant (after Glenfiddich). When the Balvenie distillery was built in 1892, it was outfitted with second hand stills from the Lagavulin and Glen Albyn distilleries.

This was one of the first distilleries to introduce a ‘finished’ single malt with the launch of 'Double Wood' in 1993, which was first aged in ex-Bourbon casks before being given a short period of secondary maturation in ex-sherry - a practice that is now commonplace in the industry.
