Bambara da Casa Catarratto 2023

12.5% abv

Vol- 75cl

A lively, approachable wine made for moments of sharing. Its refreshing character captures the essence of warm Sicilian summers, with enticing aromas of orange blossom, banana, and tropical fruits. A touch of minerality enhances the ripe fruit, striking a harmonious balance that keeps you coming back for more.

Crafted from the indigenous Catarratto grape, this wine originates from 30-year-old, organically farmed vines trained in cordone speronato. Nestled in the rolling hills of Alcamo, 250 meters above sea level and just 4 kilometers from the Tyrrhenian Sea, the vines draw character from soils enriched with sand, limestone, and ancient marine deposits. The clay-sandy plains of the region allow for generous yet refined yields, ensuring exceptional quality. Thanks to Alcamo’s favorable climate, minimal intervention—limited to just a few treatments per year—preserves the natural harmony of the vineyard, bringing authenticity to every bottle.

This wine undergoes a minimalist yet precise vinification process, with direct pressing followed by spontaneous fermentation. It is then fermented and aged in cement tanks for nine months. Minimal sulphites used throughout.

We first met Quebecois Luca on the small balcony of a packed apartment overlooking an even more busy Piazza delle Erbe in Verona. This was the meeting place for a constantly revolving cast of like-minded wine-makers, importers and writers most evenings of the annual Vinitaly Wine Fair in the city. Things have moved on - Luca had been brought to the festival by his father John, who runs one of Canada's top Bio wine agencies - Bambara Selections. This initial move to try and harness Luca's undoubted youthful energy from Montreal's streets and perhaps point him towards a better direction has paid off. With few seasons worth of passages through minimal interventionist wineries and beyond in France, Luca landed in his ancestral home of Sicily. Back to his roots, he kicked off his booots, found the corner of a friendly winery, started asking around for some good grapes and his first wines were born. The aim is to represent indigenous grapes meticulousy sourced from small scale farmers worked with minimum intervention.
