Boutiniere Chateauneuf du Pape 2017
15% abv
The domaine was created in 1929 by the great grandfather of Fréderic Boutin and since then four generations have been working the vines and making wine at the domaine. The vineyards are made up of various parcels ranging in age from 10 to 120 years old and covering around 13 hectares. These parcels are farmed using the principles of lutte raisonnée. As in many properties in the region, Fréderic has good selection of varieties planted. 60% of the area is given over to Grenache, with Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault each making up, roughly, 10% of the planting. The remaining 10% of surface area is planted with a selection of other permitted Châteauneuf varieties that bring complexity to the final blend, including Counoise, Vaccarèse and Terret Noir. Since taking over the helm at the domaine, Fréderic has made a number of changes in the winery. He initially invested in a pneumatic press and demi muids as well as remontage equipment. His aim was to increase quality and successfully preserve the character of the terroir in the final wines.
