The Can Sumoi estate is at the heart of the Penedés region. It dates back to 1645, and is situated at 600m altitude, overlooking the Serra de l'Home, with the Mediterranean Sea to the east. The ancient and unique soils here are planted with local varieties - 20 ha of Parellada and Sumoll, amongst 380ha of woodland.
Can Sumoi Ancestral Montonega 2017
The Montònega grapes (actually a high quality clone of Parellada, with pink berries) are sourced near the Can Sumoi estate – they have crisp acidity, ideally suited to the production of sparkling wines. For the 2017 vintage the grapes were hand-harvested on 15th September, destemmed, with soft treading in an inert atmosphere. Fermentation took place at 16ºC with indigenous yeasts, for 24 days in tank and 21 days in bottle. Bottled on October 9th, unfined and unfiltered.
Delicate aromas of apple skin and citrus. The palate has good texture with savoury, leesy characters balanced by crisp acidity.
