The Can Sumoi estate is at the heart of the Penedés region. It dates back to 1645, and is situated at 600m altitude, overlooking the Serra de l'Home, with the Mediterranean Sea to the east. The ancient and unique soils here are planted with local varieties - 20 ha of Parellada and Sumoll, amongst 380ha of woodland.
Can Sumoi Xarel-lo 2018
Delicate aromas of apple skin and pear, with lightly savoury notes. The palate also has some leesy, savoury character, with bright citrus acidity and an appealing texture.
The Xarel-lo grapes for the 2017 vintage were harvested on the 24th August ’17 (leaf day) – hand-picked, then destemmed, with soft treading in an inert atmosphere. Fermentation for 19 days at 16ºC in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts, and spontaneous malolactic fermentation. Battonage twice a week for 3 months.
