This is a new winery owned by UK importers Andy & Ali McLeod who have slowly been buying vineyards with old vines of native grapes. Their aim is to produce low volume hand made wines that capture the best of Terra Alta, a region of much potential that has for too long been dominated by uninteresting cooperatives. Located about 30 mins ot the west of Priorat this is Catalunya's most remote DO- on the right bank of the river Ebro, between the towering mountains of Pàndols Cavalls and Els Ports and the border with Aragón.
Winemaking is under the supervision of Andrew Halliwell, who has made wine on five continents and brings a wealth of experience to the team.
Celler Alimara La Xispa Seleccio 2017
14.5% abv
Vol- 75cl
Carignan (90%) Garnatxa Negre (10%) Made only in special years, this is selected from the best fruit and the finest barrels. With a big hit of figs and dark fruits, the wine has very approachable tannins and finishes with a hint of graphite. Drinking well now but will develop further over the next five to ten years.
