Celler el Masroig Sola Fred 2020

14% abv

Vol- 75cl

A young, deeply coloured red wine. Very aromatic, balanced and packed with ripe fruit. In the mouth it is refreshing, mouth-filling and has a lingering finish. It is a perfect example of wine made from Carignan grapes.

All of the vines whose grapes go into Sola Fred are grown around El Masroig. There are some different types of soils: sandy-clay, red clay, slate and chalky soil, all of which impart certain characteristics to the grapes. The altitude is between 150 and 350 metres. The age of the vines is between 20 and 40 years for both the Garnacha and the Carignan. The grapes are harvested by hand into small baskets, placed into stainless steel tanks where cold maceration takes place for a couple of days before crushing, which leads to a soft extraction. Maceration then occurs for 10 days. Natural malolatic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks after which the wine is aged for 5 months in stainless steel tanks. 90% Carignan, 10% Garnacha

Celler el Masroig is situated in the southern part of Montsant, bordering on Priorat. Montsant, which became a DO in 2001, extends from the banks of the Siurana River to the Montsant hilltops. The soil is mainly chalky, with some areas of clay and schist, all with high mineral content and low yielding vines. Because it is located where the Mediterranean and the continental climates meet, the summers and winters are dry while the springs and autumns are wet.
Celler el Masroig was founded in 1917 as the Cooperativa of El Masroig.
It is an association of grape and olive oil producers with approximately 300 members who are associated owners of the company. Today, the cooperative's members are the joint owners of almost 500 hectares of vineyards and they are thought to be one of the most quality orientated co-ops in Spain.
