Celler el Masroig is situated in the southern part of Montsant, bordering on Priorat. Montsant, which became a DO in 2001, extends from the banks of the Siurana River to the Montsant hilltops. The soil is mainly chalky, with some areas of clay and schist, all with high mineral content and low yielding vines. Because it is located where the Mediterranean and the continental climates meet, the summers and winters are dry while the springs and autumns are wet.
Celler el Masroig was founded in 1917 as the Cooperativa of El Masroig.
It is an association of grape and olive oil producers with approximately 300 members who are associated owners of the company. Today, the cooperative's members are the joint owners of almost 500 hectares of vineyards and they are thought to be one of the most quality orientated co-ops in Spain.
Celler el Masroig Sola Fred 2020
13.5% abv
An elegant, easy to drink white with a nose of tropical fruit, white blossom and herbs. On the palate it has fresh and invigorating acidity and a roundness from the Grenache Blanc.Great on its own as an aperitif, or with light starters and fish. 60% Macabeo and 40% Grenache Blanc.
All the grapes that go into Sola Fred are grown around the winery. Altitude ranges from 100 to 350 metres and soils are red clay and limestone. The climate is Mediterranean with continental influences. The dryness of summer, the poor fertility of the terrain, the mountainous landscape and the Mediterranean climate are all key influences. All grapes are hand-harvested into small crates, and fermentation takes place in temperature controlled, stainless steel tanks. The wine is aged for three months on the lees before bottling.
