Chateau Lynch-Bages Echo (GO) 2015

13% abv

Vol- 75cl

The 2015 Echo de Lynch Bages is a blend of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon and 34% Merlot, matured in one-year-old barrels. It has a fragrant, finely tuned bouquet of blackberry, pencil lead and a touch of citrus fruit – scents that gently unfold in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannin, the acidity well judged, gentle in the mouth, but building in fruit intensity to a pleasurable graphite-tinged finish. One of those deuxième vins where more is less. This is a well-crafted Echo…echo…echo…

Lynch Bages, which has a long history in Bordeaux takes its name from village where the chateau is located in Bages.
In the 1930’s, Jean-Charles Cazes, who was already in charge of Les-Ormes-de-Pez in St. Estephe agreed to lease the vines of Lynch Bages.
He eventually purchased both properties on the eve of the Second World War. Lynch Bages and Les-Ormes-de-Pez have been run by the Cazes family ever since. In short time, Jean Michel Cazes modernized everything at Lynch Bages. He installed a new vat room, insulated the buildings, developing new technologies and equipment, building storage cellars, restoring the loading areas and wine storehouses over the next fifteen years.

During that time period, Jean Michel Cazes was the unofficial ambassador of not just the Left Bank, but all of Bordeaux!
Jean Michel Cazes met more people, traveled more often and promoted his wines to the world like no other owner. Lynch Bages is one of the most popular and cherished brand names in Bordeaux wine today thanks to the tireless efforts of Jean Michel Cazes. It’s interesting to note that Jean Michel Cazes was one of the first chateau owners to begin promoting their wine in China in 1986!

In 1985, Lynch Bages became the first wine sent into space, when a French astronaut carried a bottle of 1975 Lynch Bages with him on the joint American/French space flight!
The sizeable, 100-hectare vineyard of Lynch Bages is planted to 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot and the wine of Chateau Lynch Bages is aged in an average of 70% new, French oak barrels for between 12 and 15 months. The wine ages extremely well. In the best vintages, 30, 40, or 50 years of evolution is possible. Lynch Bages is a wine for patient wine lovers, as it often needs 15-20 years in the top vintages to show its best.
