Cu Bocan Creation #2 Japanese Shochu & European Virgin Oak

46% abv

Nose – Lively yet balanced. Lashings of apples, pears and lime are in perfect harmony with hints of green tea. A mix of salt and smoke, create a sense of a beach bonfire. The emerging sweetness from the European Virgin Oak casks, is perfectly complemented, by the earthy characteristics of the Japanese Shochu casks.

Taste – Multi-layered. An initial burst of sweet pastry, combined with citrus notes, creates a essence of key lime pie. The fruity flavours continue, but remain soft, with hints of kiwi and apple. The smoke brings a hint of charred meat and an overall earthy quality.

Distilled at Tomatin Distillery in limited quantities during the cold winter months, Cù Bòcan is made with lightly peated Scottish barley creating a subtly smoky and surprisingly sweet spirit.

Cù Bòcan is Gaelic for 'ghost dog'. Legend has it that when distillery workers would head home after a long shift in the distillery, perhaps after imbibing in some cask samples, they would encounter a phantom hound which is said to haunt the village of Tomatin. Whilst we cannot attest to the authenticity of this, we can confirm that Cù Bòcan possesses light, ethereal qualities and is usually entombed within unusual casks.
