Daffys Edinburgh Gin

43.4% abv

With so many Gins exploding onto the market, it’s easy for a great gin to get lost without a calling card to shout with. So, what makes this husband and wife produced gin so different? Sticking your nose in the glass you find all revealed; behind the initial kick of Balkan juniper and the citrus edge of a rare Spanish lemon variety is a smooth relaxing wave of mint. In an attempt to mark their gin out from the plethora of gins on the market, Daffy’s have infused an already high quality Gin with a splash of Lebanese Mint. Refreshing idea I think you’ll agree? With a more outward looking perspective than many Scottish gins Daffy’s have sought out a fine array of spices and herbs from around the world. With French grain spirit, Lebanese mint, Spain lemon and orange, Balkan juniper and coriander, Moroccan orris root, Belgian angelica root and Indonesian cassia bark Daffy’s really do seem to have gone on a minor odyssey to source some fine flavouring. The results are really quite charming, a sharp focussed open to the nose followed by an almost soothing aroma of mint. On the palate the pot still distillation and heavy mint flavouring work in tandem to create a nice harminous roundness. If that doesn’t sell you, maybe the flash painting of the apparent ‘goddess of gin’, Daffy, by Robert McGinnis (Maybe even the same Robert McGinnis responsible for some Bond film posters) will.
