Dog Point Vineyard combines the considerable wine-growing experience of Ivan & Margaret Sutherland and James & Wendy Healy. Ivan and James met while working at Cloudy Bay Vineyards and quickly established an enduring friendship along with an appreciation of good wine. Ivan was Cloudy Bay's viticulturist for 18 years and in the latter years a Director, while James was the Company's Oenologist for 12 years. After finding they shared the same aspirations, James and Ivan decided to return to a more ‘hands-on’ winemaking approach. Using fruit from the 80 hectare Dog Point Vineyard established by Ivan and Margaret, the pair launched the Dog Point label in February 2004 using fruit from the 2002 vintage.

Bright, fresh, citrus driven sauvignon, with elements of honeydew melon, pears and gala apples in the background. A very pure, yet restrained, classic sauvignon expression. On the palate the citrus core of flavours are juicy and intense. Deliciously refreshing saline acidity and mellow rounded texture on the finish. The wine calls for fresh, simple seafood, but as usual, can be enjoyed on its own.

The succesful 2019 vintage saw a dry seasoned with yields naturally limited by a cool flowering period. Harvest was early after a dry, warm summer with a welcome sprinkling of late rain. Handpicked fruit is whole bunch pressed and cold settled before fermentation. A portion of this wine is fermented using indigenous yeasts. The wine is aged for 4 months in stainless steel tanks then bottled without fining.
