Domaine de Courcel Pommard 1er Cru Grand Clos des Epenots 2017

13% abv

Vol- 75cl

“A more complex nose speaks of red cherry, plum liqueur dark currant, earth and a whisper of old leather. As one would reasonably expect there is both better volume and concentration to the strikingly rich big-bodied flavors that deliver very fine length and depth on the distinctly firm and overtly tannic finish. To describe this as an atypical 2017 would be an understatement as I can count on one hand the number of wines from this vintage where I have suggested an initial drinking window of 25 years!” 90-93 Burghound

This historic, 11.0 hectare property has been in the de Courcel family for over 400 years. Since 1996, Yves Confuron has overseen major improvements in viticulture and winemaking. They follow organic practices, tight pruning and green harvesting to limit yields to a maximum of 25 hl/ha (although recent vintages have been far less), ploughing to encourage deeper root penetration and late harvesting to ensure maximum physiological ripeness. Following a thorough selection of grapes and 100% whole-bunch inclusion, they carry out a cold pre-fermentation maceration, long, cool fermentations and minimal racking prior to bottling, unfined and unfiltered – after 21-23 months in around one third new oak.

The estate has four Premier Cru climats planted exclusively with Pinot Noir: Le Grand Clos des Epenots, Les Rugiens, Les Frémiers and Les Croix Noires. Today, the 10.5 hectares of vines on the estate are under the responsibility of Anne Bommelaer and Marie de Courcel. All cultivation techniques are made according to organic farming (not certified) for land and environmental respect.
