Domaine de Courcel Pommard 1er Cru les Rugiens 2017

13% abv

Vol- 75cl

“This is aromatically quite similar to the Fremiers if ever-so-slightly fresher and also flashes a background note of oak influence. The dense, powerful and super-rich mineral-driven big-bodied flavors possess first-rate levels of dry extract while delivering fine length on the mocha-inflected, bitter cherry pit and noticeably warm finish. This is certainly impressive in its fashion but it’s somewhat particular in the context of the vintage.” 91 Burghound

This historic, 11.0 hectare property has been in the de Courcel family for over 400 years. Since 1996, Yves Confuron has overseen major improvements in viticulture and winemaking. They follow organic practices, tight pruning and green harvesting to limit yields to a maximum of 25 hl/ha (although recent vintages have been far less), ploughing to encourage deeper root penetration and late harvesting to ensure maximum physiological ripeness. Following a thorough selection of grapes and 100% whole-bunch inclusion, they carry out a cold pre-fermentation maceration, long, cool fermentations and minimal racking prior to bottling, unfined and unfiltered – after 21-23 months in around one third new oak.

The estate has four Premier Cru climats planted exclusively with Pinot Noir: Le Grand Clos des Epenots, Les Rugiens, Les Frémiers and Les Croix Noires. Today, the 10.5 hectares of vines on the estate are under the responsibility of Anne Bommelaer and Marie de Courcel. All cultivation techniques are made according to organic farming (not certified) for land and environmental respect.
