Continuing his father Michel’s legacy, Frédéric and now with his daughter, Clothilde, produce some of the greatest wines in Volnay. They have around 10 hectares of Bio-dynamically farmed vines. This small size of holding means they are able to operate by foot and by hand. Frédéric uses a basket press for many of the wines, he even goes so far as to press the grapes with muscle power alone.
Domaine Lafarge Beaune Rouge 1er Cru les Aigrots 2017
The 2017 is a lovely success for the Domaine Michel Lafarge, one of the great estates of the Côte de Beaune. As usual, these are elegant and classically proportioned wines, cut from quite old-fashioned cloth. The suppleness and purity of fruit that characterize the vintage at its best are on evidence, and the domaine’s lower appellations will drink well in their youth, but the emblematic wines will emphatically reward bottle age.
The 2017 Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Aigrots is very pretty, wafting from the glass with aromas of red berries, candied peel and dried flowers. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied, satiny and succulent, with a juicy core of fruit, open-knit structure and a pure finish. (The Wine Advocate)
