Established in 1948, Douglas Laing is a proudly independent, family owned Scotch Whisky business in its third generation. Over 70 years of heritage have helped them to deliver Whisky that is consistently fantastic quality. As all good independent bottlers should, Douglas Laing add nothing to their bottles nor do they take anything away.
Douglas Laing Big Peat
Douglas Laing’s Big Peat is a Blended (as we have to call them now) Islay malt containing spirit from Ardbeg, Caol Ila, Bowmore and, shockingly, Port Ellen. Not as full-on as the name might suggest, but with pedigree like that at this price Big Peat is a nailed-on winner. Picked up the top prize in its category at the World Whisky Awards 2010. The nose opens fresh, salty and clear- developing to malted barley dried over peat, with a damp, earthy character. The palate gives notes of ashes, sweet tar, beaches and smoking chimneys. The finish is long and lingering, and replicates the palate with salty, tangy liquorice, smoke and bonfire ashes.
