Douglas Laing XOP Black Port Ellen 40 Years Old 1979
Distilled Dec 1979. Bottled Jan 2020. 299 bottles from a single refill butt.
Official Tasting Notes:
Nose: Like a gently burnt scone initially, followed by the softest peated barley and brown sugar.
Palate: Shows an eclectic mix of fudge, spices, chewed leather, more subtle peat and a saline quality with late coal dust and ash.
Finish: Amplifies all those earlier subtleties with the emphasis on big hitting spices, smoke, iodine and phenolic charm.
