Having sold their successful IT business in London, Brian and Marion Smith searched wine regions to realise their dream to make outstanding, small quantity wines, eventually settling on the unique terroir of the Elgin Valley in South Africa. Certified organic and using many biodynamic practices, ploughing is done by Maddox, a gentle Percheron horse, and pest control is handled by ducks patrolling the vineyards.
Elgin Ridge 282 Pinot Noir 2015
13% abv
This Pinot Noir has a bright ruby colour and displays a raspberry and dark cherry fruit core with subtle hints of floral scent. On the palate, the acid adds an uplifting freshness to the cherry fruits and floral scent. The texture is silky with well integrated juicy tannins. ACCOLADES – 93/100 Greg Sherwood MW – 94/100 Jamie Goode – Gold at the International Organic Wine Awards
Elgin Ridge is 282 metres above sea level, so it seemed appropriate to name this organic wine by the altitude of the vines planted.
