Having sold their successful IT business in London, Brian and Marion Smith searched wine regions to realise their dream to make outstanding, small quantity wines, eventually settling on the unique terroir of the Elgin Valley in South Africa. Certified organic and using many biodynamic practices, ploughing is done by Maddox, a gentle Percheron horse, and pest control is handled by ducks patrolling the vineyards.
Elgin Ridge 282 Pinot Noir 2016
Located high on a mountainside in the natural bowl that forms South AFrica’s coolest wine region Elgin. Briana nd Marion Smith are one of the pioneers of Biodynamics in South Africa, working vineyards with the sole intention of promoting a healthy biome, without chemicals and encouraging balance. Grapes harvested under this system are then treated with minimal intervention, additions or subtractions.
