Eva Fricke Rheingau Riesling Trocken 2020

12% abv

Vol- 75cl

“The nose is super fresh, with both tart green and juicy red apple, and an invigorating fresh sea breeze character. It is incredibly youthful: a sherbet sensation and slight spritz hits the palate on the first sip. The initially keen and bright acidity relaxes on the palate; there is an underlying note of white peach. The wine is ripe, yet saline and pure; it is zippy, fresh and harmonious, leaving a salty tang on the long finish. Full of energy and deliciously alive, this would be great with oysters or pan-fried sea bass.” 2021-2024.

Eva Fricke is a young woman who is firmly establishing herself as an ‘up and coming’ winemaker in the Rheingau. The Fricke holding is made up of 5ha, having recently purchased a parcel in Bodthental-Steinberg. Currently Eva produces one wine per vineyard and wants the terroir of each site to be expressed rather than the different sweetness levels being the main focus as in most German wines.

Growing up in the North of Germany to a family not involved in wine, Eva quickly discovered her love for wine and enrolled at the University of Geisenheim and studied Viticulture and Oenology. She completed placements at several wineries such as Schloss Johannisberg (Rheingau) Pepper Tree (Hunter Valley) + the prestigious Dominio de Pingus (Ribera del Duero) and finally for renowned Weingut Josef Leitz in Rüdesheim.

All her vines are grown on very steep slopes and range from 15 - 75 years in age which helps them produce naturally low yields of c. 35hl/ha. With her ecological approach to viticulture, it has allowed Eva to avoid reverting to conventional treatments (previously she practiced sustainable viticulture).
