The story of the winery is the story of a family that has been protecting and enhancing Barbaresco since 1971. The family winegrowing tradition is now carried on by Giuseppe’s children, Pier Carlo, Tiziana, and son-in-law Gabriele, who look ahead with the determination that has always been the Cortese family’s most distinguishing feature. Attentive, rigorous care of the estate’s vineyards, strict selection, a traditional approach to vinification, and a gentle hand with modern techniques are the ingredients that define the unmistakable personality and unique flavours of Cortese’s wines

“The Cortese brothers are among the best producers of this great Barbaresco cru and this 2016, from 50 year old vines, is outstanding. Rich, vibrant raspberry coulis aromas: the high ripeness is immediately discernible but not overblown. The rich and velvety palate is sleek but concentrated, with finely judged density of fruit that never seems excessive. Depth, weight, and considerable power,, with a long, complex finish.” Wine of the Vintage – 95 Points, Decanter August 2019
“Black cherry , sage, lavender, menthol and dark spice fill out the wine’s vertical frame effortlessly. Readers will have to be patient here, as the 2016 is not likely to be ready to drink anytime soon. Pier Carlo Cortese gave the 2016 22 months in cask, and has a Riserva in the cellar as well. This is a superb wine in the making.”
