The Hesketh Wine Company is a small, family owned producer of high quality, yet accessible wines. It is run by Jonathan Heketh, the son of Robert Hesketh who was the business partner of the famous Peter Lehamann. In 1979, Robert Hesketh and Peter Lehmann started a small enterprise called Masterson Wines. This business was celebrated for saving many Barossa growers during the vine pull scheme of the early 80's, and went on to become the family winemaking dynasty of Peter Lehmann wines. Now forty years later Peter's son is chief winemaker at Hesketh. Rather than attempt to be all things to all people from one region, the Hesketh approach is to remain focused on the individual strengths of different South Australian growing regions.
Hesketh Wine Company Mezzo Shiraz Mataro 2014
To maintain the definitive colour and structure MEZZO Shiraz Mataro is so well known for, great emphasis was placed on picking the fruit at optimal ripeness to avoid over-ripening. Once harvested, the Shiraz and Mataro components were cool-fermented separately and matured in majority (90%) second-fill French oak Hogsheads, before being blended together prior to bottling.
