The Hesketh Wine Company is a small, family owned producer of high quality, yet accessible wines. It is run by Jonathan Heketh, the son of Robert Hesketh who was the business partner of the famous Peter Lehamann. In 1979, Robert Hesketh and Peter Lehmann started a small enterprise called Masterson Wines. This business was celebrated for saving many Barossa growers during the vine pull scheme of the early 80's, and went on to become the family winemaking dynasty of Peter Lehmann wines. Now forty years later Peter's son is chief winemaker at Hesketh. Rather than attempt to be all things to all people from one region, the Hesketh approach is to remain focused on the individual strengths of different South Australian growing regions.
Hesketh Wine Company Shiraz – Midday Somewhere 2017
14.5% abv
Fruit for this Shiraz is sourced from vineyards located in the warmer regions of South Australia where the climate produces fruit with a bold and generous flavour profile and firm tannins. Midday Somewhere is a medium-bodied wine with bright primary fruit characters partnered nicely alongside subtle hints of chocolate and spice.
The oak integration has balanced the primary fruit characters nicely, allowing for a ripe finish of berry notes. Hints of vanilla and chocolate are prevalent throughout without being overpowering. Soft tannins and natural acidity provide restraint and elegance until the lingering end.
