Kistler Vineyards Dutton Ranch Chardonnay 2018

Bottled since 1979. Located in the heart of where the Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast appellations intersect and planted in the sand driven Gold Ridge soil series. Kistler have worked with the Dutton family since nearly our inception. A Chardonnay of precision, with focused, structural acids threaded through a body of delicate orchard fruit tones topped by soil driven aromatics.

“The 2018 Chardonnay Dutton Ranch is classic Russian River Valley on the nose, with open-knit, ripe scents of warm peaches, quince paste, honeycomb, jasmine and a classy framing of baking spices and nutty notions. In the mouth, it has a medium weight and is incredibly silky and broad, fully flavored without losing nuance. It has a pretty blend of ripe fruits and spicy accents, a bright spine of acidity and very long, continually evolving finish. This is a beauty!” Drink 2020 – 2028

“The 2018 Chardonnay Dutton Ranch is one of the more easygoing wines in this range, and one of Chardonnays I would open first. Orchard fruit, mint and white flowers lead to a core of green apple and pear flavors. Textured and inviting, with soft curves, the Dutton is a terrific example of Russian River Chardonnay.” Drink 2020 – 2028

Steve Kistler and Mark Bixler believed that remarkable and charactered Chardonnays of site could in fact be grown and produced in California. It was a notion ahead of its time. For the last forty years this pursuit continues without compromise. Bill Price, longtime owner of Durell Vineyards purchased an interest in Kistler Vineyards from Steve in 2008. Jason Kesner joined Steve in the cellar in 2008 in order to begin to lay the groundwork for the next forty years. Steve retired from Kistler Vineyards at the end of 2017.

They work with a single heritage Californian selection of Chardonnay planted across fifteen vineyards, from Carneros to Sonoma Valley, to the Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast. They produce eleven vineyard designate Chardonnays and are wholly dedicated to the ideal of wines of site. The Pinot Noirs come from a pair of specially selected clones propogated for over 25 years from materila gathered from a Burgundian Grand Cru. All wines ferment with wild yeasts.
