Louis Roederer Cristal Vinotheque [x] 1997

12% abv

Vol- 75cl

Following on from the 1995, 1996, 1999 and 2000, Cristal Vinothèque 1997 joins this exceptional collection bringing intensity, complexity and rarity. Over the years, lying tucked away in the Louis Roederer cellars, the bottles of Cristal Vinothèque take on a new identity. Revealing great complexity and texture, this exceptional champagne has achieved its perfect expression and is the pinnacle of sophistication and refinement.
Cristal Vinothèque 1997 takes this quest for perfect balance through extended ageing even further, as the champagne has spent almost a quarter of a century laid down in the Louis Roederer cellars in Reims: 15 years resting “sur lattes”, followed by 5 years “sur pointe”, and then a further 4 years rest afterdisgorgement.
The passage of time has lent this new vintage champagne a concentrated texture which, in a miracle of the fusion of matter, human know-how and patience, is combined with an imposing saline freshness. In its pure, precise, intense and complex bouquet we find a blend of white flowers, almonds, honey and scents of nougat. After aeration, one can also detect the red fruit and smoky notes of the Pinot Noir that dominate this magnificent expression of a mature champagne, concentrated by the passing of time yet, at the same time, so fresh and refined.

About Cristal Vinothèque
Guided by Nature who, each year, presents us with a new challenge, Cristal Vinothèque embodies the timelessness of Champagne combined with a bespoke ageing regime. First, there is a long period of resting on the lees (sur lattes), between 8 and 15 years, that enables the champagne’s aromas to develop and its structure to take on greater complexity. The richness of the lees lends the wine a silky smooth texture and depth.
After the riddling process, the wine is left “sur pointe” for 5 to 10 years. This phase is essential for slowing down its ageing and prolonging its maturation while preserving the original freshness that is the essence of Cristal Vinothèque.
Lastly, after disgorgement, a third and final phase begins, lasting 2 to 6 years, which is required for the bubbles and the matter to fuse together and become one. In the heart of Louis Roederer’s cellars, under the rock and just below the water table, a silent and secret process is set in motion. Total darkness and a temperature of 11°C provide the perfect conditions for the champagne to blossom and reach its true potential.
Thus stored, the wines preserve the purity, the fruit and the surprising spontaneity that are the quintessence of Cristal, emerging as a fresh perception of this champagne, an even more sophisticated and exciting vision.
