Luigi’s vines are located in the Southern heart of Campania in an area of immense natural beauty and home to the ancient Greek site of Paestum. His wines are wonderfully pure expressions of the traditional local grapes, Fiano d’Avellino and Aglianico. Since his first vintage in 1996, Luigi has tended and improved the old family vineyards as the source of his exceptional fruit. Over the last few years, along with addition of new plantings adjacent to existing vineyards, Luigi has extensively upgraded and refurbished the winery giving him even better tools at his disposal to craft magnificent organic wines. This is the ‘other’ Campania, soils here are more commonly of the Cilento Flysch with sandstone, clay and soft marls giving a more mineral fruit expression than the rich energy of the Avellino volcanic-calcerous soils.
Luigi Maffini Cenito 2014
Luigi’s Cenito Aglianico comes from vines overlooking the Tyrrhennian Sea and after fermentation in stainlesss steel it then aged for 18 months in new and 2nd passage barrique. Deeply coloured, the wine has notes of blackcurrant, blackberries, liquorice and chocolate. This is a polished, elegant Aglianico that retains the relaxed character of the grape and region.

“Good full ruby. Ripe aromas and flavors of dark plum, ink and red cherry syrup. Big, rich and much riper than the Klèos from the same vintage, but still juicy and fresh. Finishes long, with a building herbal nuance.”
