Moorooduc Pinot Noir 2019

13.5% abv

Vol- 75cl

Bright garnet in colour with a nose of red cherries, violets, earthy complexity and just a hint of licorice and spicy notes. On the palate cherry fruit, with some savoury undertones and firm, velvety tannins. Juicy fruit balances perfectly with crunchy acid, firm tannins and a long, mouthwatering aftertaste.

Hand harvesting, 100% destemmed 100% Wild yeast primary fermentation 20 Days total on skins Natural malolactic fermentation in barrel 100% French oak maturation, 25 % new 17 months in wood with 1 racking No fining and no filtration

“The 2019 Pinot Noir is packed with red berry/cherry flavor and shaped by finely chalky, almost grippy tannins in the mouth. This is pleasurable and satisfying, with concentration that coasts and curls its way across the palate and through to the finish.”
90 Points, Erin Larkin, The Wine Advocate, Oct 2022

“The reserved 2019 Pinot Noir Estate delivers layers of spicy mushroom aromas underpinned by dark cherry and mulberry complexity. Showing a little development with earthy and meaty tones, it is now supple and settled, with integrated tannins and soft acidity providing a gentle frame and good drinkability over the short term” 2023 -2026

Good stock

Established in 1982 by Dr Richard and Jill McIntyre, Moorooduc Estate is a small, family run wine business that has developed an enviable reputation for complex and food friendly wines. They were amongst the very earliest grape prospectors to see the potential for making great Pinot Noir and Chardonnay on the Mornington Peninsula.

These days they have been joined by their highly talented Master of Wine daughter Kate. Their philosophy in everything is to make the most of top-quality ingredients. Intensive, hands-on care in the three vineyards (one belonging to the family, one to a family friend and one to their viticulturalist) produces the best possible fruit for their wines. Land is organically dry farmed with minimal use of chemicals, Wild yeast ferments and minimal intervention winemaking, with a nod to traditional Burgundian techniques, allow their wines to express their site specificity, or terroir. Production is only around 5000 cases annually.
