Nikka's history starts with the company's founder, Masataka Taketsuru, moving to Scotland in 1918 to study chemistry at Glasgow University and apprentice at three Scottish distilleries in order to learn the secrets of Scotch whisky production. On returning to Japan he was employed to set up the Yamazak distllery. After10 years at Yamazaki Taketsuru decided to go out on his own.
Nikka Whisky Company Nikka From The Barrel 50cl
Made using the marriage method whereby casks are blended separately and then re-casked (or married) to create a rich harmony of different whiskies. As such it is bottled directly from cask, with no chill filtration happening, giving the whisky 51.4% by volume. Nikka from the Barrel is big-boned and bursting with character. Not adverse to a drop of water, either. A real star, winning top prize in its category at the World Whisky Awards in 2007 and 2010.
