Nikka's history starts with the company's founder, Masataka Taketsuru, moving to Scotland in 1918 to study chemistry at Glasgow University and apprentice at three Scottish distilleries in order to learn the secrets of Scotch whisky production. On returning to Japan he was employed to set up the Yamazak distllery. After10 years at Yamazaki Taketsuru decided to go out on his own.
Nikka Whisky Company Taketsuru Pure Malt
Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt is a blended malt dedicated to the father of Japanese Whisky and Nikka’s Founder, Masataka Taketsuru. A blend of malts from the Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries, showcasing an exquisite balance of harmony and complexity.
This new release contains a higher proportion of Yoichi; reflecting the historic style of the Taketsuru range initially created by Taketsuru’s son in honour of his father.
The main influence comes from the elegant and fruity malts of Miyagikyo, balanced by integrated smoke and richness from Yoichi. Citrus aromas and pear on the nose. Round, with layers of flavour on the palate showing cardamom, candied fruit and peatiness with hints of rich, dark chocolate.
