Osmote Cabernet Franc Seneca Lake 2019

In a bright and effusive vintage this wine is showing a new added aroma of dark cocoa in the alongside of the red fruits you’ve come to expect. The whole cluster fermentation brings back a faint hint of green character and bolsters the mid palate tannin creating breadth for
the wine before a tight finish highlighted by Finger Lakes acidity.

“On the nose, cedar and laurel leaf, fine dark cocoa dust. Much dustier than the 2020 – in fact, very different from the 2020. The tannins are more astringent, the fruit less luscious, more green less red. Still fine and refined, with less swashbuckle and seduction, more infrangible restraint. Moss and wet-rock ferns cling to tiny red woodland berries that you pop in your mouth and they taste more of their stems than their fruit. Sharp, but in a way that is more tiny nisse spirited correctness than meanness. I taste this wine and find holly dancing before my eyes, the red, the green, the berries, the cold, the bright, the sharp. Whetstones and tight lines and minutely stitched. (TC)” 2022 – 2025

Sawmill Creek Vineyard- Hillside planting on east side of Seneca Lake with slopes as steep as 20%. Vineyard altitude ranges from 490-820ft above sea level. Vines planted north south on deep, gravelly loam soils. Vines planted in the 1990s, to Clone 214, which originated in the Loire.

Hand harvested on 10/15/2019. Grapes sorted at the winery and split to two fermenters. One fermenter of whole cluster fruit and one fermenter of wholly destemmed fruit. Wine is un-inoculated and instead undergoes natural fermentation with a combination of gentle pumpovers, punchdowns, and treading for a total of 22 days on skins. Tanks are drained and pressed using a basket press, and free run wine is combined with the press fraction then immediately barreled to finish primary and secondary fermentation by nature in 400L barrels. Barrels are racked twice during aging and the wine is bottled unfiltered. Bottled August 20, 2020. 136 cases produced.

The Finger Lakes AVA lies five hours north of New York city, to the south of Lake Ontario & the Canadian border. The region sits on the extremity of many a wine convention:- this is seriously cool climate production made possible only by the tempering effect of the lakes and Vinifera only arrived here in the 1950s and still has to prove its worth to many farmers more used to selling hybrids to the tourist markets. Amongst the wineries and winemakers pushing to advance the region and craft wines of quality and distinction to match the best sites' potential is local Ben Riccardi.
Ben brings the sensibilities of a young gun who has worked in Sonoma, New Zealand and France along with Big Apple attitude from time honing his skills at Manhattan's City Winery. Using fruit from both Seneca and Cayuga Lakes - there are 11 Lakes in total with four considered the best for winemaking and these two with their own AVAs - Ben makes low-intervention, wild-yeast wines that revel in freshness and lower alcohol. We love the lightness of touch he brings to his Chardonnays (both unoaked and with some large barrel influence), Riesling and Cab Franc. The hybrids that can often lead the region astray- along with being freezing in the winter there can be considerable pressure on vines during hot and humid summers - are focussed and original.

What do I pay for delivery?

Orders under £150 are charged an initial £9.95 incl. VAT.

Northern Ireland, Isle of Man, Isles of Scilly.
Orders under £190 are charged an initial £12.00 incl.

All stock bought from Bond will be charged at delivery cost as quoted by the bond. As this varies dependent on the location of the wines and ultimate destination this will be quoted to you at the point of billing for VAT and duty.

And can we change order.

Deliveries are normally between 09.00 and 17.00 Tuesday to Friday and a signature is required on receipt of delivery. (We do not ship on a Friday for Monday delivery unless specifically requested to do so).

A shipping confirmation email will be sent when your order has been processed and shipped. You will be sent a further email and/or text with a delivery time slot and a consignment number along with instructions on how to amend this if required.

If you are out a card is left, with an instruction to call the local depot to re-arrange delivery. Alternatively, you can inform us to “leave safe”, “leave with a neighbour”, “leave in garage” etc. and we will pass this information onto the courier. Please remember that, in accordance with our Terms & Conditions, alcohol will only be left with persons over 18 Years Old.

We use Mailsafe packaging and double walled cardboard boxes for secure shipping of all bottles. Clear labelling marked FRAGILE is applied and all our despatches.

UK mainland deliveries are overnight from confirmation of despatch with the exception of the following postcodes where deliveries are made on a 2 to 5 day service from despatch :
