Pol Roger made his first sale of wine in January 1849. Family circumstances forced him to set up a business his father, a notary, had contracted an incurable disease and could no longer carry on his practice. The customer was a merchant in Aÿ, the native village of Pol Roger. The firm developed rapidly. From Aÿ, it moved to Epernay in 1851. As early as 1855, Pol began to favor production of brut Champagne. He knew that this was the type of Champagne which the English preferred. By 1899, when its founder died, the brand had acquired an enviable amount of recognition. It had only taken about thirty years. Today, Pol Roger remains a family-owned house holding around 89 hectares of its own vineyards as well as buying in grapes from trusted growers. It is well known for its white-foiled Brut Reserve and of course Cuvee Sir Winston Churchill, named after the man himself, known for enjoying Pol Roger every day!
Pol Roger Rose 2018

” The 2015 Brut Rosé is compelling. Far from an easygoing Champagne, the 2015 Rosé possesses striking depth and layers of fruit that open beautifully with a bit of time in the glass. Crushed flowers, raspberry, blood orange, mint and spice all run through a substantial, super-expressive Rosé from Pol Roger that is ideally suited to the dinner table. Disgorged: November 2021. Dosage is 7 grams per liter.” 2022 – 2030

One of the few vintage pink Champagnes on the market. When Pol Roger initially started doing this wine they decided to avoid the sweet, confected styles that had gone before and released a lip-smackingly dry wine. The 2015 Rosé is salmon-pink in colour with orange tints set off by the mesmerising display of fine bubbles. At the outset the nose presents a beautifully fresh expression dominated by cherry, raspberry and delicate rose petals. As it warms, notes of candied cherries and sweet berries bring a wonderful complexity that is continued in the palate. On first taste the 2015 Rosé offers citrus notes of blood orange that develop into generous and enveloping red fruit flavours.
Pol Roger does not make a non-vintage Rosé, preferring to release only in vintage years. The Brut Rosé Vintage 2015 is produced from a blend of 50% Pinot Noir and 35% Chardonnay drawn from some 20 Premier and Grands crus on the Montagne de Reims and the Côte des Blancs. In order to obtain its delicate colour and subtle nose 15% Pinot Noir, from selected vineyards in Bouzy, Ambonnay and Cumieres, is vinified “en rouge” and added to the blend prior to the second fermentation. e Rosé is aged for a minimum of six years in the cellars, plus an additional six months for the UK market. The very fine and persistent mousse for which Pol Roger is renowned owes much to these deep, cool and damp cellars.
