Powell & Son ‘Riverside’ Grenache Shiraz Mataro 2015

14.5% abv

Vol- 75cl

The 2015 Powell & Son Riverside Grenache Mataro Shiraz is drinking superbly right now, with ten years of bottle age bringing harmony, savoury depth, and beautifully resolved tannins to its once-bold Barossa fruit. Now firmly in its prime, it offers a rare chance to experience a mature Powell & Son wine from a parcel that is largely gone, making this a genuinely scarce and compelling opportunity for lovers of fully evolved Barossa blends.

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Riverside Grenache Shiraz Mataro offers notes of black raspberries, kirsch and mulberries with an earthy undercurrent and a waft of baking spices. The palate is soft, richly fruited and delivers plenty of pure, uncomplicated flavors with great harmony.
Lisa Perotti-Brown, Wine Advocate

A supple, seamless mix of cherry and raspberry flavors, with dried violet, savory and smoky details, accented by hints of sarsaparilla. Polished and refined, especially on the effortless finish. Grenache, Mataro and Shiraz. Drink now through 2030.

Powell & Son is the continuation of one of the great modern Barossa stories, led by legendary winemaker Dave Powell and founded in 2013 with his son Callum. Dave Powell is a Barossa native who cut his teeth at Peter Lehmann, Yalumba, Wolf Blass, Saltram and Rockford before going on to found Torbreck in 1994, where he became internationally renowned for crafting some of Australia’s most powerful and iconic wines. At Powell & Son, the philosophy is clear and uncompromising: source exceptional old-vine Barossa fruit, intervene as little as possible, and let vineyard character and season speak with authority. The wines are bold, expressive and deeply rooted in place, yet shaped with increasing finesse and restraint, reflecting Powell’s decades of experience and hard-earned perspective. From Grenache and Mataro to Shiraz and Rhône-style blends, Powell & Son wines are unmistakably Barossan — generous, structured, soulful and built to age — carrying forward the legacy of one of Australia’s most formidable winemaking figures.
