In 2002, Tenuta San Guido’s Sebastiano Rosa, Sardinian wine mogul Antonello Pilloni and the legendary Giacomo Tachis banded together to create a revolutionary winery next to the white Sardinian sand beaches of Porto Pino in the Sulcis Meridionale. The trio set up to craft unique wines that will express the solar character of Sardinia through international grape varieties. The result is one of the most thrilling ranges of our portfolio, composed of wines of incredible elegance and charm.
Punica Barrua 150cl 2010
“Beginning with a brooding nose of red fruit, licorice, earth and smoke, the ‘10 Barrua expands into a full, robust, powerful palate of juicy fruit, fresh-cut herbs, striking minerals, sweet tobacco and a touch of spice and chocolate. This wine is the product of a joint venture between the Santadi co-op and Tenuta San Guido, the makers of Sassicaia, guided by the hand of master enologist Giacomo Tachis. Crafted from the indigenous Sardegnian grape Carignano along with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, Barrua has a full, gorgeous body that gives a seductive frame to this wine’s elegant, if quietly feral, palate. Culminating in a very long, very sophisticated finish, the ’10 Barrua is a superstar wine that’s drinking beautifully now or a decade down the road.”
