Never one to rest on her laurels, Sophia Bergqvist has invested significantly over the last few years at La Rosa with the construction of a new winery. New granite lagares, fermentation tanks and an automatic basket press have been purchased, a carefully thought out tasting room overlooking the Douro River has been constructed, an extensive area for entertaining has been created, as well as a number of apartments and guest rooms built to develop the tourism side of the business. You can’t help but be impressed with the scale of this project and admire Sophia Bergqvist’s vision for this family Quinta, whilst she has maintained the integrity of the old building and the charm of a family estate in the Douro.
Quinta de La Rosa La Rosa Reserve Tinto 2019
Multi-award winning expression showcasing the heights that Portugese wines can reach – equalling many First and Second Growths. Blended from the old vines of selected Portugese Port varieties (Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Cão and Touriga Franca) with aging in French Allier barriques after traditional crushing under foot in granite Lagares, this is sumptuous stuff. Spicy, fragrant and juicy with fine and elegant tannins that carry the dark blackberry fruits.
The terroir in the Douro is still largely unexplored and by making wines with balance, harmony and equilibrium from our vineyards, we try to enable the grapes to express
themselves in the bottle. The La Rosa style is to make well defined wines without too much extraction, tannin or oak. Wines that are rich and full bodied whilst being fresh and lively with a good acidity. This is a very structured wine with mature, ripe tannins and layers of ripeness and floral undertones coming from both the Tourigas. The wine has a wonderful fresh finish giving it an overall balance and equilibrium.
