Sugrue Cuvee Boz 2015

12% abv

Vol- 75cl

‘Barry Ben Sugrue – was my brother and this wine is dedicated to him. Boz was spectacularly gifted, an ardent and accomplished man, bright as the crisp-white paper his razor-sharp pencil raised perfection upon.
This Blanc de Blancs is my tribute, but truth is there is no fitting tribute to someone like Boz… Cuvée Boz is my attempt however.”
I crafted this Blanc de Blancs with long cellar-ageing in mind, and I am delighted with the results: it is everything you would expect from a mature English Blanc de Blancs – floral notes of white flowers and citrus, with precise and elegant fruit on the palate but with a weight and textural complexity that is only possible to achieve with extended time on lees in the winery.
This wine was vinified entirely in stainless barrels, without any oak, so a remarkable clarity and freshness shines through displaying toasty, flint-like minerality and a long, persistent finish.’ Dermot Sugrue

Beautiful English Blanc des Blancs. 100 Chardonnay from the Jenkyn Place Vineyard in Hampshire, planted 2004. From the 2015 vintage, 6,200 bottles produced. After careful handpicking the grapes were gently pressed before undergoing their 1st fermentation in stainless steel with full malolactic fermentation. Once bottled, the wine spent just under 4 and half years on lees. Bottled in September 2020 with dosage of 9g/l.

“The 2015 Cuvée Boz, released at the end of February 2021, is 100% Chardonnay from the Jenkyn Place Vineyard in Hampshire. This has a light mousse and a greenish tint. The welldefined, complex and harmonious nose unfolds to reveal green apples, crustaceans and subtle hints of lemon thyme. The palate is very well balanced and poised, quite weighty in the mouth, offering citrus peel, orange zest and faint traces of strawberry toward the elegant finish. This is an outstanding English sparkling wine from Dermot Sugrue, certainly one of the best that I have tasted.”

In 2006, acclaimed winemaker Dermot Sugrue planted at Storrington Priory, a small vineyard at the foot of the South Downs. The first release of Sugrue was ‘The Trouble with Dreams’ 2009 vintage which went on sale in 2013, rapidly gaining critical acclaim.
Some years after a degree in Environmental Sciences at the University of East Anglia, Dermot studied Viticulture and Oenology at Plumpton College, Sussex. Following vintages in the UK he completed two seasons working in Bordeaux, at Chateau l’Eglise-Clinet, Pomerol and Chateau Leoville-Barton, St Julien. He joined Nyetimber in 2003 and was appointed Winemaker in 2004. Over the following years he oversaw Nyetimber’s emergence as one of the world’s greatest sparkling wine producers. He worked the 2006 vintage in Champagne for Jacquinot & Fils before joining Harry and Pip Goring to set up Wiston Estate winery, which is where he also crafts Sugrue. Dermot is also the winemaker for a number of highly respected wines produced under contract at Wiston, including Digby Fine English, Jenkyn Place and new producer Black Dog Hill as well as a good number of others.

Dermot has been hailed England's best winemaker by the legends that are Steven Spurrier & Hugh Johnson.
