Taittinger remains one of the few Champagne Houses to be owned and actively managed by the family named on the label. Its origins date back to 1734 when the original house was founded by Jacques Fourneaux. The Taittinger link was established in 1931 when Pierre Taittinger, the founder of today’s company acquired the House. Pierre spent time in the Champagne region when serving in the 1st world war as a young cavalry officer. Stationed at the Château de la Marquetterie, he fell in love with this remarkable property and its vineyards and eventually purchased the company. Today, the Reims based House is headed up by Pierre’s grandson, Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger and his son, Clovis and daughter Vitalie both of whom are actively involved in the day to day running of this thriving family Champagne House.
Taittinger Nocturne 37.5cl NV
Very expressive nose. Delicate wine with flavours of fresh fruit and honey. In the books, James Bond drank Taittinger (as it was creator Ian Flemming’s favourite champagne). In the film version of From Russia With Love, Tatiana Romanova’s glass of the delicious bubbly was spiked with poison… The House of Taittinger subsequently withdrew their involvement.
Taittinger Nocturne is a “Sec” champagne composed of Chardonnay (40%) and Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier (60%). Blended from around thirty different vineyards from various vintages, this wine is laid down for four years to age before being disgorged.
A 17.5g/l dosage of sugar cane combined with the slow cellar-ageing create a round and smooth champagne that is perfect to enjoy late in the evening.
