Warm and rugged, Talisker is the Isle of Skye in liquid form. Distilled on the southern shores of Loch Harport, Talisker dates back to 1830 when the farming tenants of Talisker House, Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill, leased a bit of land and a found a good use for an abundance of barley, peat and, of course, water. In 1894, The Talkisker Distillers Co. Ltd was founded and, four years later, merged with Dailuane-Glenlivet Distillers and Imperial Distillers to create the Dailuaine-Talisker Distilleries Ltd. In 1916 the company was bought over by a consortium made up of the Glasgow brokers and blenders W.P. Lowrie & Co., John Walker & Sons Ltd and John Dewar and Sons Ltd, ultimately ending up in the hands of what is now known as Diageo in 1925.

Nose: A mellow yet forward and firmly maritime nose, dry in feel, with very light prickle. The top notes are maritime and mineral, led by briny beaches. As the liquid breathes in the glass, the aroma becomes fruitier, with a hint of white grape, while some light vegetal notes suggest parsnip and the nose feel becomes drier. A drop of water increases the maritime notes and adds a little peat to the effect.
Palate: Smoothly creamy in texture, with a very pleasing mellow taste that is markedly sweet and also salty, and which quickly develops a controlled peppery feel, with hints of peat. Smoother and sweeter with water, and still spicy.
Finish: Lengthy, drying and lightly peppery, with a kick of spicy pink pepper and a faint smoky memory of peat in the aftertaste. All of these characters increase with a dash of water.
Finished in American oak casks toasted by the heat of volcanic rocks from Skye
