Terre Des Dames Rose Amphora 2021

13.5% abv

Vol- 75cl

The wine is a blend of 50% Mourvèdre, the vines were planted in 2005 with very low yields. Grenache 30% relatively young vines planted in 2011 and finally Syrah 20% – plot near a small stream in wild surroundings.

One of the rare rosé’s of the region made with such low yields (25 hl/ha) allowing an interesting complexity.

This is an honest, unadorned rosé for wine lovers. Direct pressing.

2021 vintage was very challenging, early budding in the spring followed by a late frost wiped out around 75% of Terre des Dames old Grenache Blanc vines meaning Lidewij had to get creative with the red and roses. The plan was to make a little more rose with experimentation in Amphora.

Already, we begin to perceive a very interesting minerality and expression of the fruit.

Production 2021 only 2,000 bottles.

Lidewij van Wilgen, a successful marketing executive in The Netherlands, started a new life in 2002 when she moved with her 3 young daughters to become a winemaker in the Languedoc. The vineyards were restored, the wine cellar renovated and the main house rebuilt. Now she is one of the ‘Leading Ladies of Languedoc’ and is highly regarded by Jancis Robinson and many other wine writers. Certified organic principles are applied to both viticulture and vinification, her naturally irrigated 14-hectare vineyard being a mix of clay, limestone, flint and fossilized oyster shells.
