Recchia – Jago, Valpolicella Classico

The farm of Fratelli Recchia is situated in the heart of the historic Valpolicella region. Tradition and innovation, experience and technical progress, the philosophy that has come down through the generations, a perfect union between the old and the new. In 1906 Giovanni Battista Recchia bought a small estate in Jago, Valle de Negrar, built his house and started to cultivate the few vineyards still present at the end of 1800’s. With seriousness and passion the vineyard holdings and production are considerably increased, the company now having 60 hectares of vineyards in Valpolicella and Lake Garda.

From the South facing slopes of Jago the Valpolicella Classico is a blend of 65% Corvina, 15% Corvinone, 20% Rondinella fermented and aged in stainless steel. For the Valpolicella Classico Superiore selected grapes of the same vineyard blend are slightly dried and after ferment in stainless steel spend 12 months in French oak. The estate’s Ripasso “Le Muraie” is 55% Corvina, 25% Corvinone, 20% Rondinella which undergoes a second ferment on the skins of grapes used for the sweet Recioto red, aged in French oak for 18 months. The Amarone ‘Masua di Jago’ sees the same cepage from the Jago farm dried until it has lost over 40% of it’s original weight. The wine is aged in French oak for 24 months. A selection from a single vineyard on the property, the Amarone ‘Ca’Bertoldi’ ages in oak for 48 months and in bottle for a further 18 months before release. In 1987 they added a property across the ridge in the commune of Castelnuovo del Garda. Vines here are under the moderating influence of Lake Garda itself. The Bianco di Custoza is a glacial-cool blend of 40% Trebbiano, 40% Garganega and 20% Chardonnay. The Bardolino is a blend of 40% Corvina, 40% Rondinella, 10% Molinara & 10% others fermented and aged in stainless steel.
