Au Bon Climat Pinot Noir Knox Alexander 2021

13.5% abv

Vol- 75cl

Knox Alexander Pinot Noir exhibits a refined profile with notes of ripe strawberry, delicate black tea, hints of lilac, and the subtle allure of hibiscus. Passion fruit floral components add a graceful touch. The palate experience is enduring as the once prominent tannins from wood components have now evolved into a silky texture, promising further integration and refinement with time.

Named after Jim Clendenen’s son Knox, this wine represents the finest lots of Pinot Noir from the Santa Maria Valley appellation; in this case Bien Nacido Vineyard where the winery is located and Runway Vineyard, our next door neighbor. Though close to each other, these two vineyards produce outstanding Pinot Noir that are distinctly different. Blended together the wine showcases the signature Santa Maria Valley Pinot Noir character of cherry, cranberry, red currant, rose hip and sage that is so well displayed in Knox Alexander Pinots. It is a well structured, complex Pinot Noir of depth that becomes even more remarkable as the wine ages and integrates.

Founded in 1982, Au Bon Climat produces internationally-recognized Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from grapes grown in California's Santa Barbara County. Located at the foot of one of California's most highly rated vineyards, Bien Nacido in the Santa Maria Valley, one of the finest sites in California, ideal for the production of the refined, Burgundian style of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. ABC, as it is more commonly referred to, has won universal acclaim for its wines thanks to late owner & winemaker Jim 'Wild Boy' Clendenen. They purchased clones of Pinot Noir from Burgundy in a bid to replicate as closely as possible the restraint and finesse of the wines from the region. Now Isabella and Knox Clendenen continue their father Jim's legacy, treating Burgundy as the benchmark with General Manager Jim Adelman continuin his 30 year tenure overseeing the winemaking. Jim eschewed a career in law for the lure of the vine following a month's stay in Burgundy and Champagne when he was 21 and never looked back. The wines combine the mineral precision and grace of Burgundy with the flair of the West Coast.
