Delamain Grande Champagne Cognac (Early Landed 1974 – Bottled 1998) 1972

The 1972 vintage is a notable example of their “Early-Landed” tradition, wherein young cognac is shipped to the UK shortly after distillation to mature in the cooler, humid conditions of British cellars. This method, which became rare following regulatory changes in the late 20th century, was believed to impart a distinctive finesse and complexity to the spirit.
In this instance, the cognac was distilled in 1972, transported to the UK in 1974, and matured in oak casks until its bottling in 1998. This prolonged aging in a temperate climate contributed to its unique character, distinguishing it from cognacs aged solely in France.?
A deep amber hue leads into a nose of dried fruits, particularly apricot and fig, complemented by nuances of honey, toasted almonds, and subtle floral undertones. The palate is refined and well-balanced, revealing layers of rich fruit, gentle spice, and a touch of rancio—a hallmark of aged cognac. The finish is long and elegant, leaving a lasting impression of its intricate flavors and smooth texture.?
