This historic, 11.0 hectare property has been in the de Courcel family for over 400 years. Since 1996, Yves Confuron has overseen major improvements in viticulture and winemaking. They follow organic practices, tight pruning and green harvesting to limit yields to a maximum of 25 hl/ha (although recent vintages have been far less), ploughing to encourage deeper root penetration and late harvesting to ensure maximum physiological ripeness. Following a thorough selection of grapes and 100% whole-bunch inclusion, they carry out a cold pre-fermentation maceration, long, cool fermentations and minimal racking prior to bottling, unfined and unfiltered – after 21-23 months in around one third new oak. The estate has four Premier Cru climats planted exclusively with Pinot Noir: Le Grand Clos des Epenots, Les Rugiens, Les Frémiers and Les Croix Noires. Today, the 10.5 hectares of vines on the estate are under the responsibility of Anne Bommelaer and Marie de Courcel. All cultivation techniques are made according to organic farming (not certified) for land and environmental respect.

The Croix Noires (0.58h) is located below Rugiens, adjacent to Frémiers on the north side. The Domaine owns more than half of the total surface of the appellation. Although situated close to Frémiers, the soil here is deeper (0.8m) and more claey. The vines are east facing and all around 40 years of age. The wines produced have strong aromas leaning towards very ripe black cherry and also enjoy marked tannins.
