Domaine de la Vougeraie was founded in 1998 when the domaines of Claudine Deschamps, Pierre Ponnelle, Louis Voilland and L’Heritier-Guyot were merged. The man behind the venture was Jean-Claude Boisset, whose own considerable holdings meant that Domaine de la Vougeraie became a significant player in the Cote d’Or, with 37 hectares of prime vineyard including seven grand crus to their name. A family estate uniting a collection of the most prestigious, historical vineyards in Burgundy, the winery strictly adheres to organic and Biodynamic farming in order to achieve a balance between the earth, the plant and humanity, with the goal of drawing the best from the terroir.

Domaine de la Vougeraie Vougeot Clos du Prieure Rouge 1er Cru 2022

“The 2022 Vougeot Le Clos de Prieuré, a monopole of Vougeraie, has a perfumed, quite floral bouquet that is rather Chambolle-like in style: mulberry, raspberry, a light fish scale scent. The palate is medium-bodied with a lively entry. I like the tannin structure here, plus the keen line of acidity lends bite on the finish. Worth seeking out.” 2025 – 2038

Though Vougeot is best known for the highly reputed Clos de Vougeot, covering almost 51 hectares, the Premier Cru and Village appellations in the remaining 16.5 hectares should not be forgotten. The Clos Prieur Monopole is adjacent to the Vougeot GC amd shares most of the qualities of the Grand Cru.
5 day cold maceration, wild yeast ferment for 20 days followed by 15 months in barrel, 20% new, light filtration, no fining.
For the first 680 years of this vineyard’s history, the Clos was tended by the monks of Cîteaux, who planted the Clos de Vougeot and the majority of the neighbouring plots at the start of the 12th century. The Clos du Prieuré, like the others, was sold off at the end of the 18th century under the French Revolution.
The Clos du Prieuré (priory enclosure) belonged to the Benedictine Priory of the Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés in Paris. Exposition to the east. Vineyard enclosed with high walls, ripening early, alongside a stream (La Vouge). Plantings between 1901 + 1983 – 80% massal. Organic since 1997, Biodynamic 2001.
