Laherte Frères was founded in the nineteenth century with current winemaker Aurélien representing the 7th Generation. They own nine hectares of land spread over ten communes and an astonishing seventy different parcels. Vineyards are currently farmed biodynamically or are in the process of conversion. The family holdings are mainly located around Épernay, nearby Chavot (where the winery is located), Moussy and Vaudancourt. In addition, they own parcels in the Côte des Blancs and the Marne Valley. They cultivate all three main varieties with Pinot Meunier very well represented as one would expect given the local terroir. Primary ferments are mostly in wood - small barrels and foudres - with only partial malolactic and 6 months lees aging before secondary ferment. Dosage is kept low and each wine is carefully crafted to see the varieties used best exploit the estate’s patchwork of fine terroir. “These Champagnes reinforce my strongly held view that Aurélien Laherte is one of the most talented vignerons of his generation in Champagne. The range this year is truly stellar. Readers who have not tasted these Champagnes owe it to themselves do so. Aurélien Laherte is young, passionate and humble. It is only a matter of time before he is recognized as one of Champagne’s elite vignerons. As for the wines, they are spectacular”. Antonio Galloni, Vinous

The selected plots were planted between 1947 and 1953. Since that time, many generations followed one another in order to preserve this patrimony and keep all the qualities of these old vine stocks (some have been planted on franc vine stock). All this contributes to give birth to this cuvée, a real tribute to the Laherte ancestors and to the grape variety Pinot Meunier. A small portion of interplanted Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Fromonteau (Pinot Gris) are included. The vines are grown with the respect of nature, using organic and biodynamic practices.
Pinot Meunier from a single vintage. All of the grapes are picked up by hand when fully ripe, then put in a traditional press. The alcoholic fermentation takes place in barrels. There is no malolactic fermentation in this cuvee. Ageing on lees takes place for six months. All bottles are disgorged by hand with 4g’l dosage dosage.
