The house of Roederer remains independent and family owned. They own over 240 hectares of vineyards (increasingly farmed to Biodynamic principles) formed from 410 parcels with 90% in the Grand and Premier Crus of the region. All of their vintage styles are made solely from their own grapes up to their legendary deluxe cuvee - Cristal.
Louis Roederer Brut Collection 246
12% abv
Lovely golden yellow hue. Steady lively bubbles. Bouquet of yellow fruits (nectarine) and ripe, concentrated citrus (lemon) complemented by sweet notes of petals, pollen, sugared almonds and wheat. We find an impressively ripe, complex and intense fruit which elevates the pure and intense bouquet interwoven with smoky overtones. The palate is velvety, unctuous, rich and juicy. The bubbles have an almost saline character to them and coat the palate with a broad and concentrated texture. The wine reveals an exceptional balance between structure and a crisp, powdery, saline chalky freshness. Smoky and slightly oaky notes linger on a deliciously well-honed finish.
245 is based on the 2021 harvest at 55% – 1/3 “la Rivière” Estate, 1/3 “la Montagne” Estate & 1/3 “la Côte” Estate. A blend of 54% Chardonnay 35% Pinot noir 11% Meunier. The Perpetual Reserve comprises 35% of the blend (it is composed of years 2012 – 2020 inclusive). The final 10% is Reserve Wines aged in oak (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017). 30%of wines underwent malolactic ferment and dosage was 7g/l
“”Roederer’s Brut Premier was created in the 1980s to prove to consumers that we could deliver consistent quality with a blend that compensated for less than perfectly ripe vintages,” explains Jean-Baptiste Lecaillon. “We were blending in pursuit of maturity, of ripeness. The concept behind the Brut Collection is the opposite: we’re looking for freshness—and we are embracing singularity, something we’re emphasizing by enumerating each year’s blend.” This project has been in the making since 2012, when Lecaillon set aside 21,000 liters of wine to constitute a perpetual reserve aged in large tanks without malolactic fermentation. Sourcing has evolved too: less must is coming from cooperatives, and only vineyards cultivated without the use of herbicides inform the blend. A dedicated team oversees all this, visiting every grower three times per year. And vinification is parcel by parcel to deliver a maximum of blending components. ”
The new Collection designation has been created in response to the warming climate and reflecting Roederer’s innovative spirit and pursuit of excellence allowing more freedom after each vintage to make the best wine possible. Creation of a perpetual reserve to maintain and enhance freshness and salinity in the face of climate change and ever more mature grapes. Increased proportion of oak aged reserve wines. Lower dosage. Freedom of blending style, from cépage to proportion of reserve wines, to ensure the best quality possible. Each collection number will be unique, but the style will always be resolutely Roederer. The Collection number represents the number of blends since the inception of the house, to the base vintage.
