Mulline Vintners was established in 2018 by winemaker Ben Mullen and his partner, business manager Ben Hine with the aim to create a range of single vineyard wines in the relatively undiscovered Geelong region of Victoria. The couple source grapes for their own label from some of the best parcels in Geelong’s diverse subregions: the Moorabool Valley to the west, the Bellarine Peninsula to the south-east, and the Surf Coast to the south-west.
Mulline Sutherlands Creek Fume Blanc 2021
13% abv
“The 2021 Fumé Blanc is 100% Sauvignon Blanc from the Strathmore Vineyard in Sutherlands Creek, Moorabool Valley (Geelong). Made from clone F4V6, it was handpicked, stomped and held for 18 hours prior to being pressed directly to barrel with full solids. Wild fermented, 30% of the wine went to new Austrian oak while the remainder was split between second and third use oak. it matured for eight months prior to blending and bottling. There are wisps of smoke and ash on the nose, laced with white flowers, green apple skins and the remainder of Jasmine tea. This is nuanced and layered aromatically, hinting at the minerality and detail that is available in the mouth. The acidity is briney and offers a stark (yet balanced) counterpoint to the oak, making all in all for engaging, exciting drinking. This is good.” 2022 – 2029 93 Points, Erin Larkin, The Wine Advocate, Nov 2022
