In the world of Italian wines there are very few estates and even fewer personalities whose influence can truly be considered as epochal. Giuseppe Quintarelli is undoubtedly classed as one of the top auteurs of post war Italian fine wine. Bepi, as he was known, spent over sixty years - up until his sad passing in 2012 - of skill, care, patience and uncompromising attention to detail creating the legendary wines of the estate, characteristically modern yet tied to the family’s home and history. Today, the Quintarelli family (Giuseppe's daughter Fiorenza, her husband Giampaolo with sons Francesco and Lorenzo) farm 12 hectares of vines on limestone and basalt soils between the property adjacent to the winery and other plots in the surrounding hills. Most of the vineyard land was purchased by Giuseppe Quintarelli, but the house and winery were acquired by his father.

Quintarelli Valpolicella Classico Superiore 2017
15% abv
“The Quintarelli Giuseppe 2017 Valpolicella Classico Superiore (made with 55% Corvina and Corvinone, 30% Rondinella and 15% Cabernet, Nebbiolo, Croatina and Sangiovese) goes through a brief appassimento (that leans to the Ripasso method) and sees between five and six years in large oak cask. The wine’s maturation has been slightly shortened over recent years, down from seven years in botte. This wine was bottled in February 2024, and we can expect the 2018 vintage to go into bottle in January or February 2025. The 2017 vintage is a little shy initially, but the wine does open to dark fruit and dried blackberry. There are two to three grams per liter of residual sugar that help to amplify the softness and texture of the mouthfeel.” 2025 -2040

The ‘base’ Valpolicella sees 6 years in large Slavonian oak casks. Dark fruits, cigar leaf, deep cherry sorbet and amazing length that lifts Valpolicella to the heights only Quintarelli would strive for.
Composed of 50/50 appassimento fruit and standard ferments.
