Ramey Wine Cellars was founded in 1996 by David Ramey and his wife Carla, after David had worked for almost two decades creating benchmark wines for such wineries as Matanzas Creek, Chalk Hill, Dominus Estate and Rudd Estate. Located just off the town square in Healdsburg, the winery is perfectly placed to make use of the great Sonoma and Carneros terroir famous for the quality of their Chardonnays. Ramey's philosophy is to make hand-crafted wines that see the marriage of an terroir and Old World tradition with New World innovation and progress. Over the years, David has helped pioneer traditional, artisan winemaking techniques in California. His efforts have rippled through the winemaking community, helping to shape the way many wines in the United States are made today. His groundbreaking work with indigenous yeasts, sur lies aging and malolactic and barrel fermentation yielded a new California style that was more luscious and richer in nuance and tone than previously known. As a result, he created a benchmark style now emulated by many.

Ramey ‘Hyde Vineyard’ Chardonnay 2023
14% abv
The 2023 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard is classy, elegant and polished. Soft contours and lifted aromatics convey total finesse. Orchard fruit, lemon confit, marzipan, white flowers, mint, white pepper and acacia are all very nicely lifted. This is an especially refined rendition of Hyde.
95 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jan 2026
“Coming from special vineyard sites, our Chardonnays show great depth of flavor, length of finish, aromatic complexity, and a fine balance between richness and delicacy. Typically, the climate is cool and the soil vigor low, producing graceful yet vibrant wines.” – David Ramey
Vineyards – 55% Westside Farms, 18% Kilcullen, 13% Dutton Sebastopol, 10% Martinelli Charles Ranch, and 4% Frank Johnson. These are cool sites, with low vigor soil such as Goldridge Loam, planted between 1978 and 2006. The vineyards are mostly planted to UC Davis Clone 4, known for its prominent acidity and large clusters, with lesser percentages of Wente and aromatic clones like Rued.
Pressed whole clusters for phenolic delicacy. Native-yeast and full native malolactic fermentation take place in barrel, with sur lies bâtonnage. After aging 12 months in 10% new French oak barrels (Taransaud Beaune, François Frères), the Chardonnay was traditionally fined for clarity during the following harvest and bottled without filtration in January 2022.
