Rene Rostaing crafts some of the finest Côte Rôties on the market today. He has owned 2 hectares in the Côte Blonde and La Landone since the 1970s but fortune has blessed him through his inheritance of four hectares of superbly sited vineyards from his father in law Albert Dervieux and another 1.4 hectares of particularly old vines from his uncle Marius Gentaz. He now has 7.4 hectares which in Côte Rôtie terms is a significant holding. Rostaing dislikes the overt taste of new oak and uses a maximum of 15% in the maturation process. All the wines are bottled unfiltered.

Rene Rostaing Cote Rotie ‘Ampodium’ 2022
14% abv
It would be hard to find a more consistently classic and superb expression of Côte-Rôtie than Ampodium, which comes from 20 different parcels across 15 to 16 lieux dits. A number of components of the blend were tasted revealing incredibly fine, lifted aromas of dark slate, freshly picked berries and violets. The palate is dominated by a core of crunchy, crisp black cherry fruit with fine, porcelain tannins which melt away on the finish. Once again, it is the incredible energy and vibrancy of this wine which makes it absolutely sing. Superb. Drink 2025 to 2035.
